Just for two

Después de más de un mes de visita en Portland, en donde estuve conociendo a personas casi a diario, lo que realmente necesitaba era un tiempo a solas con Gavin y él lo sabía, así que planifico una pequeña escapada de tres días a la ciudad de Hood River.

De las cosas que puedo mencionar es que deben comer en Solstice (501 Portway Avenue,  Hood River, Oregon) , la pizza es al horno de leña deliciosa, la que yo probe fue Cremini, que traía hongos cremini, queso de cabra, mozzarella y aceite de trufa.

La regla también al ir a Hood River es el Wine Tasting, no te puedes ir sin hacerlo. Nosotros visitamos 3 lugares diferentes y mi favorito fue Naked Winery (102 2nd Street Hood River, OR 97031) , el tasting es de $15, los vinos son deliciosos y el ambiente es divertido y relajado.

Para un café, Doppio (310 Oak St, Hood River, OR 97031) es una excelente opción y nuestro Airbnb era vecino de un restaurante mexicano “Lake Taco” (1213 June St, Hood River, OR 97031) que para mi sorpresa estuvo delicioso.

Mi corazón no pudo haber sido más feliz, en un destino perfecto para descansar y con la mejor compañía.

After more than a month of my trip to Portland where I got to meet new  people almost every day,, what I really needed was a time alone with Gavin and he knew it. So he planned a little trip to the city of Hood River.

One of my food recommendations is with out a doubt Solstice (501 Portway Avenue,  Hood River, Oregon) , the wooden fire pizza is delicious, the one that I had was Cremini, with Hood River Organic crimini mushrooms, goat cheese, shredded mozzarella, lemon zest, truffle oil and herb mix.

The rule is, if you visit Hood River you have to do at least one wine tasting, we visited 3 different places, but my favorite was  Naked Winery (102 2nd Street Hood River, OR 97031) , the tasting costs  $15, the wines are delicious and the atmosphere is fun and relax (also pet friendly).

If you need a coffee, make your stop at Doppio (310 Oak St, Hood River, OR 97031).

Our Airbnb was next door of a Mexican restaurant that was surprisingly  “Lake Taco” (1213 June St, Hood River, OR 97031).

My heart coudnt’t have been happier at the perfect spot to rest and with the best company.

Pastries and hugs

¿Alguna vez han tenido un día en el que las cosas no están saliendo realmente como esperaban? Yo he tenido varios de estos, y durante los días que estuve de vacaciones en México, literalmente tuvimos de todo, y esto incluye una visita al médico.

Ese día pasamos gran parte de la mañana esperando en la sala de esperas del hospital y dentro de la clínica de la doctora, y cuando salimos de ahí tipo 11 am, moríamos de hambre así que decidimos ir por un desayuno para resetear el día.

Nos dirigimos directamente a Lalo, un restaurante que hace sus propia panadería y pastas, por lo que tienen mucho cuidado en la calidad de panadería que ofrecen al cliente.

Algunos datos de Lalo:

• Ambiente: juvenil.

• Parqueo: No cuenta con parqueo.

• Menú: Panadería, Sandwiches, Pastas

• Servicio al Cliente: Bueno

Al revisar el menú, lo primero que se me antojo fue un açai bowl, tenía chocolate, granola, frambuesas, manzana y banano.

Fue la mejor forma de iniciar la mañana. La textura era cercana a la de un pudín, y tu estomago agradecerá al terminar este desayuno, por que te sentirás satisfecho y sin el estomago pesado, además que el sabor es delicioso.

Gavin, era el enfermo y cuando no debía comer grasa, se lo perdonamos, por que pidió un muffin de huevo, tocino y aguacate. La verdad no lo probé, pero ese muffin se veía delicioso, con suficiente mantequilla como para que la masa fuera un poquito hojaldrosa.

Como habían galletitas, no me pude resistir y ordené una palmerita, que son mis favoritas. Esta galleta que parece tan simple, tiene su grado de dificultad, por que si no le agregas la cantidad correcta de mantequilla, será muy dura y sí tiene mucha por el contrario se va deshacer demasiado.

La palmerita estaba en su punto, con la textura y suavidad correcta, se quebraba en tu boca al masticarla y tenía una cobertura de chocolate increíble. Me gusto tanto que la verdad no quise compartir ni un poco de mi galleta.

En general puedo decir que la panadería de México tiene un alto nivel, en casi todos los cafés que visite habían opciones deliciosas y no me decepcionaron ninguno.

Have you ever had a day where things don’t go in the direction that you wished? I had a lot of them. During my Mexico trip we had literally everything and that includes a Doctor’s visit.

That day we spent most of the morning on the waiting room of the hospital and on the doctor’s clinic and when everything finished it was 11 am already, and we were starving so we decided to go for breakfast and reset the day.

We headed to Lalo, a restaurant that makes their own pasta and bread, so they are really careful about the qyialitt of this products.

Checking the menu, the first thing that caught my eye was the açai bowl, it has chocolate, granola, raspberries, apple and banana. 

It was the best way to start. The texture was like a pudding and your stomach will be glad of feeling satisfied with out the aches, plus the flavor is delicious. 

Gavin was the sick one, and he shouldn’t have eaten fat, but we forgave him because he ordered a muffin with egg, bacon and avocado. The thruth is that I didn’t taste it, but it looked delicious, with enough butter to gave the muffin a flaky texture. 

Since there were cookies, I couldn’t resist myself and I ordered a palmerita, that are one of my favorites. This cookie may seem so simple, but it has a good level of difficulty to bake it, because if you don’t put enough butter it would be hard to bite and if you put too much it would brake too easily.

The palmerita was on its point, with the right texture, and it brakes in your mouth, it was covered with chocolate. I liked it so much that I didn’t share a bit of my cookie. 

In genefal I can say that bakery in Mexico has a good level, in almost every coffee shops that I visited there were delicious pastries and I wasn’t desapointed by any of them.

Add flowers

De Mil Flores es un pequeño café ubicado en zona 14, en dónde puedes tomar un café mientras trabajas o puede ser también el lugar perfecto para una tarde de amigas.

Desde la primera vez que lo conocí, me pareció super encantador, de esos lugares en dónde podrías encontrar cualquier excusa para ir a tomar un café.

Para compartir este lugar, hable con mi amiga Marta Regina para que nos pusiéramos al día y compartiéramos un tiempo juntas.

Al revisar el menú a mi se me antojo el Mediterranean Bowl, que traía hummus, tabbouleh, tzatziki, pollo y pan pita.

Cuando llego mi plato, estaba servido de una forma tan linda. Fue de esos platos en dónde quiero tomarle tantas fotos como sea posible antes de meter el tenedor por primera vez.

El tabbouleh tenía la cantidad de limón exacta, super delicioso, el pollo estaba cocido a la perfección y jugoso, y que les puedo decir del hummus que es de mis favoritos, me encanto que podría pedir en otra ocasión un plato entero sólo con hummus y pita.

La comida y la platica estaba tan buena que no podíamos irnos sin el postre, así que para compartir pedimos un Matcha Lava Cake.

El Lava Cake, tiene la particularidad que al centro, es un pastel húmedo, da la impresión que no estuviera totalmente cocido.

Este Lava Cake tenia una combinación perfecta entre matcha y vainilla, venía acompañado con una bola de helado de vainilla. Les digo que estaba tan bueno que si hubiera sido mi cheat meal, me hubiera comido un postre yo solita.

Para tomar pedimos unos capuchinos con cardamomo. Les puedo asegurar que De Mil Flores tiene también excelente café, por si quieren pasar por ahí solo a tomar algo. Tienen un capuchino de lavanda que no lo encuentran en otro lugar.

De Mil Flores it's a little Bistro, located in zone 14 of Guatemala City, here you could have a cup of coffee while you work or it's also the perfect place to hang out with your friends.

Since the first time that I went to this place, I thought it was absolutely charming, is one of those places where you could find any excuse to have a cup of coffee there. 

To share this place, I talked with my friend Marta Regina, because we needed to catch up and we like to hang out. 

When I looked at the menu, I knew that I wanted to order a Mediterranean Bowl, that had hummus, tabbouleh, tzatziki, chicken and flat bread. 

I saw my plate and it was served in such a cute way, that I took all the pictures that I could before introducing my fork on it. 

 The tabbouleh had the exact amount of lemon, super delicious, the chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy, what can I say about the hummus, is one of my favorites foods, I love it, I could actually order next time just a plate of hummus with flat bread.  

The food and the talking were so delightful that we didn't want to leave, so we ordered a dessert. The Matcha Lava Cake. 

Lava Cake, has this particularity, that has a wet center, it seams like it wasn't well baked.

This Lava caked had the perfect match between matcha and vanilla, it came with a vanilla ice cream ball. I admit that if it had been my cheat meal, I could had order a Lava Cake just for me. 

To drink we had cappuccino with cardamom. I can assure you that De Mil Flores serves an excellent coffee, if you are making an excuse to visit for something to drink. They also have a lavender cappuccino that you can't find in other place. 

Late mother´s day

Un día después del día de la madre, decidí llamar a mi abuelita para que fuéramos a desayunar. Y como últimamente han sido días de lluvia y el trafico se pone muy complicado, no quería alejarme demasiado de su casa, así decidí llevarla a cuatro grados en zona 4.

El lugar en el que desayunamos fue Café Caminito, que tiene un ambiente bastante casual y tiene mesitas afuera del restaurant para poder ver lo que sucede en la calle.

Mi elección fue el avocado muffin, que lleva huevo revuelto con un toque de pimiento, espinaca, queso y aguacate. Además el plato traía nachos y un chutney de tomates. El chutney viene de la cocina indú y debería ser una mezcla de ingredientes los cuales se aplastan para hacer la salsa.

Mi muffin estaba rico, no puedo decir que tuviera algo extraordinario por que sería mentir, es de esas cosas que son demasiado fácil de reproducir por tu cuenta, y que si las pides cuando sales de casa, es por practicidad pero no hay nada más que eso. Ahora los nachos y el chutney para mi no eran los acompañamientos correctos, los nachos eran de bolsa normales y el chutney estaba demasiado dulce, ultimamente me he dado cuenta que cuando eligen ponerle un toque dulce a los platos pareciera que se les va la mano y se olvidan que tenemos otras 3 zonas del paladar que anulan.

The day after mother´s day, I called my grandma and told her that I would like to take her to had breakfast.

Recently the rainy days had began, and the traffic gets complicated so I didn´t want to go so far from her house, so decided to take her to cuatro grados norte in zona 4.

The place to had breakfast was Café Caminito, the environment is very casual and they had tables outside so you can watch the activity of the street.

My choice was the avocado muffin that is scramble egg with pepper, spinach, cheese and avocado. Plus it came with nachos and tomato chutney. The chutney came from the Indian cuisine, and it´s supposed to be a mix of ingredients that are crushed to make the sauce.

My muffing was ok, I can tell you anything extraordinary because I am not going to lie to you, is something you can easily can make at home, so if you ordered it´s more because for the rush or the familiarity with it. But is a different history for the nachos and the chutney. First of all I considered that this wasn’t the right companion for the muffing.  The nachos were from a bag, nothing special and the chutney was too sweet. I came to the conclusion that many cooks that want to add some sweetness, to the plates, they forget that we have other 3 flavor zones in the tongue and they annul them and as a result you end up eating a plate with unbalance flavor.

Kape Paulinos

Eating in Tecpan in Chimaltenango is a very good option especially for breakfast. If you are making a trip and you need to pass though Chimaltenango, make the time to eat in one of the restaurants of Tecpan.

In this occasion we chose Paulinos for breakfast. The place has been around for many years so is common that you find the place full, so if you are a large group be patient. 

To eat I ordered a quesadilla. That was a flour tortilla, scramble eggs, bacon and cheese, and beans as complement. When I order I thought that maybe I woudn´t be satisfy and that probably I was going to order some dessert. But little I knew about the portion. When I get my quesadilla, it was enormous. I didn't finish my fried beans because I was full.

The quesadilla was really good, with a good amount of bacon and cheese. The waiter was really nice and the service was fast even though it was full. The coffee order has a free refill so is great and the best of all is that the prices are really affordable.

Comer en Tecpan en Chimaltenango es una buena opción, especialmente para el desayuno. Si estas por hacer un viaje y debes pasar por Chimaltenango, has el tiempo para comer en alguno de los restaurantes de Tecpan.

En esta ocasión escogimos Paulinos para desayunar. El lugar tiene muchos años en el mercado, por lo que es muy común que encuentres lleno el restaurante, así que si vas con un grupo grande, debes tener paciencia para que te asignen una mesa.

Para comer ordene una quesadilla. Que es una tortilla de harina, huevos revueltos con tocino y queso, acompañada con frijoles. Cuando pedí mi desayuno pensé que tal vez no me iba a llenar y que seguramente iba a pedir un postre. Pero que poco sabía sobre las porciones, por que cuando me llevaron mi quesadilla estaba enorme y ni siquiera me pude terminar mis frijoles por que ya estaba muy llena.

La quesadilla estaba muy buena, tenia una buena cantidad de tocino y queso. El mesero fue muy amable y nos dieron nuestra orden bastante rápido a pesar que el restaurante estaba lleno. La orden de café tiene refill  lo que hace que sea un excelente lugar además que los precios son bastante accesibles.

Twixie Bites

On the weekend is so hard for me stay on a diet, because is the perfect time to spoil yourself.

Arkadia Shopping Mall in Guatemala City, recently opened a Little coffee shop named Muriel. I had tried a Twixie cake from them, because we celebrated with my mom my sister´s in law baby shower and I ordered the cake from Muriel.

So for the Sunday´s dessert we had mueriel´s twixie bites from her coffee shop. The detail of every square were lovely, thay had a marble texture. The Coffee shop offered a variety of bites, and regular size cakes, and also you can have some savory options, and the classic coffees and teas.

I orderd an american coffee that was really good and ate 2 twixie bites, that were PERFECT. They had a bunch of caramel, and the chocolate was really good you didn´t fell the fat that some choloates leave you in the lips so you can eat your bites with less guilt.

Every now and then when you have the time go and spoil yourself with one of these twixie bites or other dessert from Muriel, you wont regreat it.

Los fines de semana es muy difícil para mi mantener la dieta, principalmente por que es el mejor momento para consetirme.

En Arkadia Shopping Mall, en la Ciudad de Guatemala, recientemente acaban de abrir un pequeño café llamado Muriel. Yo ya había probado los pasteles de Muriel por que con mi mamá celebramos el Baby Shower de mi cuñada y ordenamos un pastel de Twixie con ella.

El postre de este domingo fueron los pequeños bites de twixie del nuevo café de Muriel. El detalle de cada cuadrito era tan lindo, tenían textura de mármol. El pequeño coffee shop ofrece una variedad de bites y pasteles de tamaño regular, además de todos los estilos de café comunes y tés, si te gusta lo salado también puedes pedir alguna de las opciones saladas.

Yo pedí un café americano que estaba muy bueno y me comí dos bites de twixie, que estaba PERFECTOS. Tenían una gran cantidad de caramelo y el chocolate estaba muy bueno, no sentías esa capita de grasa que algunos chocolates te dejan en los labios, por lo que podías comer sin tanta culpa.

Cada vez que tengas la oportunidad de consentirte hazlo con uno de los twixie bites o algún otro postre de Muriel, no te vas arrepentir.

Coffee is a Serious Deal

I was in Cuatro Grados Norte with my family and I wanted to take my brother to Paradigma, a little coffee shop, that is famous for it´s excellent coffee.

I ordered a Geisha coffee in aeropress and we bought a little cheesecake in Fado and the combination was perfect. You don't need to order a capuccino if you visit one of these coffee shops like Paradigma, so if you like coffee visit this place.

Estamos en cuatro grados norte con mi familia y quería llevar a mi hermano a Paradigma una pequeña cafeteria que es famoso por su excelente café.

Yo pedí un café Geisha en aeropress y habíamos comprando un cheesecake de Fado y la combinación era perfecta. No necesitas pedir un capuchino si vas a un lugar donde tengan excelente café.

Así que si te gusta una buena taza de café, Paradigma es una buena opción

A date with myself

On this day I had decided to have a little date with myself, many things have had happen in my personal life, so I need some quite time to think.

So I decided to went to Antigua, and I remember to had seen a little cafe named Ganache. 

This place is really comfy, it´s small and all the pastries look delicious, I went for a raspberry tart, that was delicious, the coffee was excellent and they also have wifi. 

I recommend you this little cafe if you are looking for a place to have a little dessert.

Este día había decidido tener una pequeña cita conmigo misma, habían pasado muchas cosas en mi vida personal y necesitaba un día a solas para poder pensar.

Así que decidí ir a la Antigua y me recordaba de haber visto con anterioridad un pequeño café llamado Ganache.

El lugar es bastante comodo, pequeño y todos los pastelitos se veían deliciosos, pedí una tarta de frambuesa que estaba deliciosa, el café riquísimo y además tienen wifi para los clientes.

Les recomiendo este cafecito si están en la búsqueda de un lugar para comer el postre.

Late night coffee

One thing you need to know about Buenos Aires, is that there's always an open place to have a cup of coffee so this night was like 11pm and we decided that we need a little dessert to finish the night.

So we stopped by a place called Cabildo, if you go to Argentina, you may be impressed by the amount of pastries, that you can find, we asked for 3 different kind of pastries, the one that I absolutely love, was the one that has Dulce de Leche, argentina is know by this sweet for a really good reason, so whatever you gonna order, make sure that has dulce de leche. The waiter was very kind because we were a big group, he gave us extra pastries to try it out as a courtesy.

Una cosa que debes saber sobre Buenos Aires es que, siempre hay algún lugar abierto para tomar una taza de café, así que esta noche eran como  las 11pm, y decidimos que necesitábamos un postre para terminar la noche.

Así que nos detuvimos en un lugar llamado Cabildo, si estas en Argentina, seguramente te vas a quedar impresionado por la cantidad de pastelitos que puedes encontrar, nosotros ordenamos 3 clases diferentes de pastelitos, el que ame, fue uno que tenia dulce de leche, Argentina es conocida por sus dulces por una buena razón, así que sea lo que sea que ordenes asegurate que tenga dulce de leche. 

El mesero fue muy amable, y como éramos un grupo bastante grande, nos regalaron pastelitos de cortesía para que pudiéramos probar más.

Little Chat with friends

On a Sunday afternoon, it's always a good idea to catch up with your girlfriends, so we decided to have a coffee and of course something sweet.

The first place to come to our mind was Cafe Saul zona 14, because it's a good place, has parking and the food never disappoints you. 

I ate here last Friday which made the decision of what to get harder, If you know me well, you can guess what I order to drink, of course a cappuccino!!! and my dessert was a Vuitton do Janeiro, it's a pineapple, mascarpone, coconut and orange liqueur crepe, so if you don't like the desserts that are too sweet this is a good choice for you because of the cheese.

En una tarde de domingo, siempre es una buena idea, de ponerte al día con tus amigas, así que decidimos tomar un café y por supuesto acompañarlo de algo dulce.

El primer lugar que vino a nuestra mente fue Café Saul de zona 14, por que es un lindo lugar, tiene parqueo y la comida nunca nos ha decepcionado.

Yo había comido el viernes pasado en Saúl, así que la decisión de que ordenar se me hizo un poco más difícil, si me conoces bien, ya te estas imaginando que ordene de bebida, y por supuesto fue un capuchino y mi postre fue un Vuitton di Janeiro, que es una crepe de piña, queso mascarpone, coco y licor de naranja. Así que si no te gustan los postres muy dulces, esta es una buena opción, sobre todo por el queso ya que nivela lo dulce.
