One Year

No todos mis post son tan personales, pero este es especial, por que con él puedo celebrar un año junto a Gavin, algo que desde el principio lo considere poco probable por no decir imposible. Sin embargo cuando veo para atrás puedo ver como cada decisión que hemos tomado ha valido la pena y además ahora entiendo que cuando la persona esta en sintonía contigo y hay amor, realmente cualquier cosa es posible.

Para celebrar nuestro primer año juntos Gavin se encargo de la cena y fuimos a Portland City Grill, ya les había escrito sobre este lugar (aquí pueden leer el primer post) sin embargo en esa ocasión, comimos en el área del bar y como cenamos ya tarde, la luz es muy tenue, un detalle muy lindo para crear una atmósfera romántica pero algo muy complicado si quieres tomar buenas fotos.

Esta vez pedí un Bone-In New York de 16 onzas con papás fritas béarnaise con unos ejotes deliciosos que tenían un sabor como a limón.

Para empezar debo decirles que por lo general mi porción de proteína es de 5 onzas por tiempo de comida, así que hablar de 16 onzas parecía una monstruosidad.

Gavin sugirió un sushi para compartir como entrada, pero yo no estuve de acuerdo por que ya de por sí sentía que la comida iba a ser demasiado.

Nos llevaron panito con mantequilla recién horneado y para brindar yo pedí un cosmopolitan de lavanda.

Madre Santa! este si que fue un cheat meal espectacular.

Llegaron los platos y mi carne se veía deliciosa, era un corte alto con muchísimos jugos. Nos llevaron unas salsas para la carne, pero cuando lo probé sentí que no era necesaria, por que la carne tenía un sabor tan espectacular que no había que opacarla con nada más. Las papás fritas estaban deliciosas y los ejotes también.

No deje ni un sólo ejote ni una sola papa frita, pero si deje carne, pero no se preocupen Gavin se lo llevo y sirvió de almuerzo.

Como el staff sabía que era nuestro aniversario, nos habían decorado la mesa y nos llevaron un postre de cortesía que era un mousse de chocolate, estaba muy rico pero el chocolate no es mi primer opción nunca y además para ese punto de la cena, ya necesitaba un par extra de pantalones.

Sin lugar a duda, este fue el mejor lugar para celebrar, así que sin importar el lugar que elijan para celebrar logros importantes en su vida, vayan a un lugar en donde sepan que la comida también va a llegar hasta el corazón y va hacer de ese día algo especial.

Not all my post are about my personal life, but this one is special, because I can celebrate one more time our first anniversary with Gavin. Such an accomplishment it felt like it was so far away and almost imposible. However when I look back I can realize how every choice that we had made has been worth it and now I understand how when you meet someone and you are on the same page and there is love anything is possible.

To celebrate, Gavin was in charge of the dinner and we went to Portland City Grill, I had written about this place in the past,  (here is the link of the first post) however on that occasion we ate at the bar area and our dinner was late so it was  light, a special detail to create a romantic atmosphere but for taking photos is the worst thing that someone can do to you.

This time I ordered a 16 ounces Bone-In New York with béarnaise garlic fries and green beans that had a lime flavor.

I have to tell you that usually my protein portion is 5 ounces per meal, so talking about 16 looked like a monstrosity.

Gavin suggested to order a sushi to start, but I wasn’t down for it. Because I already felt that there was going to be plenty food.

They served us freshly baked bread with butter and to toast I had a lavender cosmo.

OMG! this really was an espectacular cheat meal.

The food arrived and my steak looked incredible full of juices. They gave us some sauces for the steak, but when I tried them I felt that it wasn’t necessary, because the steak had a spectacular flavor that you didn’t need anything else. The french fries were delicious and so were the green beans.

I didn’t left a single green bean or french fry, I just had steak left overs but don’t worry Gavin took it and it served as his lunch next day.

The staff knew that it was our anniversary so they decorated the table and they gave us a complementary dessert, it was a chocolate mousse, it was yummy but chocolate is never my first option, and at that point of the dinner I was so full and needing a new pair of pants.

With out a doubt this is the best place to celebrate, so no matter which place you choose to celebrate important accomplishment in your life, visit a place where the food can strike in your heart too, to make that day unforgettable.

Día de Piratas

Ya en otra ocasión les había comentado del restaurante El Carnicero  si están en zona cuatro, éste es el lugar más indicado para ir a comer carne. 

Algunos datos del carnicero:

• Ambiente: Relajado, ideal para ir a tomar una cerveza con amigos.
• Servicio al cliente: Los meseros son muy atentos y rápidos, además se siente super rico que no te pongan peros para tomar fotos.
• Parqueo: No cuentan con parqueo propio, debes parquearte en la calle o en algún parqueo publico cercano.
• Menú: principalmente tienen diferentes cortes de carne, pero también puedes elegir entre tortillas de harina, hamburguesas o ceviche.
•  Precio: $$$

En teoría tenía ganas de comer algo con menos grasa, por que la noche anterior había comido en la casa de unos amigos y esa cena, ya contaba como el cheat meal de la semana.

En otra ocasión que había visitado el carnicero ya había pedido una ensalada, que estuvo bien, pero obviamente este no es el lugar indicado para comer ensaladas y esa fue la razón por la que no me sorprendió. Así que revisando el menú omití las ensaladas y encontré "la pirata" que no sonaba nada mal.

Una pirata es una tortilla de harina rellena de carne, aguacate y queso mozzarella. Esta delicia acompañada con salsa de chipotle (que pedí por aparte) y pico de gallo. El problema fue con el acompañamiento, que olvide pedir ensalada, y me trajeron papas fritas y por supuesto me las comí por que estaban deliciosas, y ahí eche a perder mi almuerzo "saludable", pero eso sí, estuvo delicioso.

La carne de la tortilla estaba super jugosa y término medio. Lo que más me gustó, es que en algunos lugares cuando pides variaciones de la carne, pareciera que te ponen los peores cortes, sin embargo en la pirata el sabor de la carne estaba exquisito, de la misma calidad que los cortes de carne grandes,  lo cuál me pareció maravilloso.

Las papas traen un crisp especial y son adictivas, yo empecé diciendo, "voy a comerme solo un par" y cuando sentí, me las había terminado todas.

Si visitan el lugar los días sábados por lo general tienen a un DJ y el ambiente es bastante divertido.

On another occasion, I had written about El Carnicero restaurant, if you happen to be in zone 4, this is the right place for a steak.

Some facts about El Carnicero:

• Ambient: Relaxed, ideal to go with friends for a beer. 
• Customer service: The waiters are very attentive and provide a speedy service. It feels very good that they will not unsettled by taking lots of pictures.
• Parking: They do not have their own parking, you must park in the Street or in a nearby public parking.
• Menu: They mainly serve different cuts of meat, but you can also choose from flour tortillas, hamburgers or ceviche.  
•  Price: $$$

In theory, I wanted to eat something light, because the night before I had dinner at afriend´s house, and all that counted as the cheat meal of the week.

On other ocassion, I had visited El Carnicero and ordered a salad, which was fine, obviously this is not the place for salads and thus I was not surprised. So, while looking at the menu, I skipped the salads section and I found “La Pirata” which did not sound bad at all.

A pirate is a flour tortilla stuffed with steak meat, avocado and mozzarella cheese. This delight comes with chipotle sauce (which I asked to be apart) and pico de gallo. The problem was with the side dish, since I forgot to order a salad, they brought French fries, and of course, I ate them all because they were delicious. There I spoiled my "healthy" lunch, but it was all worth it!

The steak meat on the tortilla was juicy (cooked medium level) .What I liked the most is that, in some places when ask for variations of a plate, it seems that they put the worst cuts, however, in La Pirata, the steak meat was exquisite and of the same quality as the cuts of large steaks. I though that was wonderful.

The French fries had a singular crunch and were addictive, I started saying "Iam going to have just a couple" and, suddenly. I hat finished them all. 

If you visit El Carnicero on Saturdays, they usually have a DJ and the atmosphere is quite vibrant.

Fried egg and meat

Donde Mikel it´s a well known restaurant in Guatemala an it´s signature dish is the Surf and Turf. Recently they opened a new restaurant, that is more casual than Donde Mikel.

I went to try the food with my friend Marta Regina, we wanted to eat a good steak and have a good and long chat.

The place had a little outside area, where you can have your food with a very fresh environment. The capacity of the restaurant may be of 50 ppl maximum, and the mall where is located offered parking lot a MUST in zone 10.

The restaurant offered pepitos that is an enormous sandwich with steak and there are options like a combination of Manchego cheese, mushrooms or their signature that is steak with a fried egg on top, you can also order the pepito surf and turf it´s not in the menu but they can make it for you.

I ordered a pepito with manchego cheese with the steak medium rare and my friend Marta Regina ordered a pepito with a fried egg and extra Manchego cheese.

The pepito came with french fries on top. When I saw the enormous sandwich I instantly thought "I should have ordered one sandwich to share."

The steak was exquisite, really juicy, with a touch of olive oil and a generous amount of garlic, and the perfect companion: the french fries that you cannot resist to eat them.

In your table you will find a variety of hot sauces to try, to make your meal more fun.

I love the food and the waiter was always paying attention if we needed anything, so if you ask me, El Huevo frito is totally worth it.

Donde Mikel es un restaurante muy conocido en Guatemala, y su plato estrella es el mar y tierra. Recientemente abrieron un nuevo restaurante que es mucho más casual.

Fuimos a probar la comida de este lugar con mi amiga Marta Regina, las dos queríamos comer carne y tener una buena y larga platica.

El lugar tiene un área exterior en donde se puede comer en un ambiente súper fresco. El restaurante tiene capacidad para unas 40 personas, es un poco pequeño, pero el ambiente es muy agradable y esta ubicado en Plaza Diez que cuenta con parqueo, una característica esencial en zona 10.

El restaurante ofrece pepitos, que es un pan enorme con carne y otras combinaciones como champiñones, queso manchego, chorizo y su plato estrella que es lomito con un huevo frito encima, además puedes ordenar un pepito mar y tierra que no esta en el menú pero si lo pides lo preparan.

Yo ordene un pepito con queso manchego y cuando vi el enorme pan lo primero que pensé fue “debí haber ordenado para compartir”

Lacarne estaba exquisita, bastante jugosa con un toque de aceite de oliva y muchísimo ajo y el compañero perfecto para este sándwich eran las papas fritas que venían sobre el pan a las cuales no te puedes resistir.

En la mesa encuentras una variedad de salsas picantes para hacer más divertida tu comida.

A mi me encanto la comida y además el mesero siempre estuvo atento a lo que necesitáramos, así que si me preguntas a mi, El huevo frito es un restaurante que vale la pena visitar.

We keep celebrating!

Like a told you before this year I wasn't in the mood of celebrating, but thank God I am surrounded  of people who loved me.

So the next day of my birthday, my brother and sister in law, invited me to have lunch. I had to pick the place, so I wanted to visited La Esquina, a new restaurant in zona 4.

I order a burger with a fried egg and fries. The place was packed, it was Sunday afternoon and you couldn't find a place to eat, so we decided to eat outside in like some sort of outside bar that they had. 

My burger was delicious, and the fries not to mention. I had noticed that in some places, you can find a great burger but regularly the fries are bad, but in this place that won't be the case.

The restaurant is great and they had so many options, that you will want to keep going to try the whole menu.

Como les había dicho antes, este año no tenia deseos de celebrar, pero gracias  Dios  estoy rodeada de personas que me aman.

Así que el día siguiente de mi cumpleaños, mi hermano y mi cuñada me invitaron a almorzar. Yo tenia que elegir el lugar y elegí La Esquina, un nuevo restaurante en zona 4.

Pedí una hamburguesa con un huevo frito y papas fritas. El lugar estaba llenísimo, era domingo al medio día y no podías encontrar un lugar en donde sentarnos, así que nos fuimos a la parte de afuera en donde tienen una especie de barra.

My hamburguesa estaba deliciosa y las papas ni mencionar. He notado que en muchos lugares encuentras una hamburguesa deliciosa pero muchas veces las papas o acompañamientos no son buenos, pero en este lugar no te va a suceder esto.

La Esquina tiene muchas opciones deliciosas para comer, que definitivamente te van a dar ganas de seguir regresando para ir probando todo su menú.
