Breakfast with friends

Una vez al mes tratamos de coincidir con mis amigas del gimnasio, sobre todo por que el día a día y los múltliples quehaceres muchas veces impide que nos veamos con mayor frecuencia. A mi me tocaba elegir el restaurante, pero por lo general, desayunamos en un mismo sector así que decidí cambiar esto y elegí los 3 tiempos en zona 1, de la Ciudad de Guatemala.

Había ido hace un par de años a este restaurante a su ubicación en Antigua Guatemala, pero tenía mucha curiosidad del que se sitúa en el centro, por la vista de la ciudad.

Logre convencer a mis amigas y nos aventuramos. Yo ordené los huevos cobaneros, que eran huevos sobre un pan francés, bañados en salsa y queso, acompañados de frijoles volteados. Para no alejarme mucho de mi dieta cambie mis frijoles por parados y agregue una clara extra de huevo.

La comida y el lugar son increíbles, vale la pena visitarnos, creo que nos hace soñar en vivir en el centro que es tan mágico. Lo único que si debo mencionar es que el servicio fue demasiado lento, nos llevaron la comida en 45 minutos más o menos y el restaurante estaba prácticamente vació, en un día lleno no se cuanto tiempo se hubieran tardado.

Once a month we try to have a little meeting with my group of friends from the gym, especially because with all the stuff that we have to do on our daly life some times is really hard to see each other. I had to pick the restaurant, but we usually always have breakfast close to the same area, so I decided to pick “Los 3 Tiempos”, in downtown Guatemala City.

I have been there a couple years ago in Los 3 tiempos at Antigua Guatemala, but I was really curious about the location in downtown because of the view.

I convinced my friends and we went for this adventure.

I ordered the Cobaneros eggs, that were scramble eggs, over bread with cobanero sauce and it came with fried beans but I switched it for black beans and I also ordered an extra egg white, to stick the most that I could to my diet.

The food and the place are incredible, is really worth it to visit it, I think that it makes you dream about living in this magical place that is downtown Guatemala. The only thing that I must say is that, the service was to slow, they took almost 45 minutes to serve the food and the restaurant was practically empty, I wonder how much time We would’ve had to wait if the restaurant had been have full.

Comfort Food

Existen algunos tipos de comida que se sienten como un abrazo para el corazón. Eso es precisamente lo que sientes como visitas Potbelly.

Con mi familia estábamos en downtown Portland y coincidió con la hora de almuerzo y la verdad es que decidimos buscar un lugar cercano, para que mi mamá no tuviera que caminar tanto.

Parqueo: No cuentan con parqueo.
Menú: Sandwiches, sopas, shakes y Mac&Cheese
Servicio al Cliente: Excelente.

Yo ya había comido en este lugar en una ocasión y lo que me tenía emocionada era que quería tomar una Cream Soda, el sabor de esta bebida es como una cremita de vainilla. Por lo general siempre acompaño mis comidas con agua pura, pero este día quería hacer la excepción.

Mi sándwiche era de jamón de pavo, con queso cheddar y pepinllos. El pan que elegí fue integral y también pedí unas chips Zapp's de barbacoa riquísimas.

MIs papás pidieron Mac and cheese y tenía tocino, yo probe un poco y la verdad estaba delicioso.

Los sándiwches de este lugar son deliciosos, y el ambiente del lugar es bastante tranquilo, que creo que funcionaría perfecto como para almorzar sola y tener un tiempo de lectura o sólo para escuchar un poco de música.

There are types of food that feels like a little hug to the heart. This is precisely what you feel when you visit PotBelly.

We were with my family in downtown Portland and it was lunch time and the fact was that we decided to look for some place to eat, that wasn't that far, because we didn't want that my mom walk a lot.

PotBelly's Facts:

Ambience: Cozy.
Parking: Doesn't have.
Menu: Sandwiches, soups, shakes and Mac&Cheese
Coustomer Service: Excellent.

I have eaten in this place before and I was really excited about the idea of a Cream Soda, the taste of this drink it's like bubbling vanilla. I usually drink tap water, but this time I wanted to do an exception.

My sandwich was Turkey Ham and Cheddar, it came with a delicious pickle and I chose whole grain bread y also had a bag of Zapp's BBQ chips, they were so good.

My parents ordered Mac and cheese with bacon, I tried a little bit and it was really good.

The sandwiches of this place are amazing and the ambience is really calm, it works perfectly to have lunch be yourself to have a reading time or just to listen some music.

Homemade

Pan American es uno de los pocos hoteles ubicados en la Sexta Avenida de la zona 1 de la Ciudad de Guatemala, que en su momento fue el sector más importante de la ciudad.

Dentro del hotel hay un restaurante que ofrece platillos tradicionales guatemaltecos. Mi abuelita trabajo por mucho tiempo en zona 1 y me había comentado de este lugar, por que había tenido varias capacitaciones en este hotel. Yo no había tenido la oportunidad de probarlo, hasta que un día, el punto de encuentro fue Pan American.

Como sabía que era comida tradicional, tenia ganas de probar el Cocido o caldo de res, que prácticamente es una sopa de consomé de vegetales con un mix de vegetales cocidos y carne. Yo lo pedí con pollo.

El cocido, me llevó a los recuerdos de infancia tomando este caldito en la casa de mi abuelita materna, quién acostumbraba a cocinarlo.

El caldo tenía un delicioso sabor predominante de vegetales, y al haberlo pedido de pollo me garantizó no comer tanta grasa (comparado con el de carne de res).

Solicité que mi plato fuera de media porción y era enorme. Lo único que no me agrado es que el pollo venía con su piel, pero bueno, supongo que algunos disfrutan comerlo así.

Mi bebida fue una limonada de hierbabuena con Splenda, estaba súper fresca.

Para finalizar, no pude evitar marcharme sin un postre, que fue un pie de mora. Los pies son hechos en el lugar. Pero créanme que este pie ni siquiera cuenta como un pecadito, ya que cada bocado era como comer las propias moras. Fue delicioso sentir el sabor real de la fruta en lugar que ésta estuviera disfrazada con un montón de azúcar.

La desventaja del Hotel es que no tiene parqueo propio, así que para llegar a la ubicación hay que considerar que debes caminar como dos cuadras desde el parqueo publico más cercano.

The Pan American is one of the few hotels located in the Sexta Avenida of zona 1, which was, once the most important sector of Guatemala City.

Inside the hotel there is the restaurant, that offers traditional Guatemalan dishes. My grandmother worked for a long time in zone 1 and she made multiple comments of this place, as she had had several trainings at the hotel. I have not had the chance to try it, until one day, Pan American was the meeting place.

As I knew they served traditional food, I wated to try the Cocido or beef broth, which is practically a soup with a mix of cooked veggies and meats. I ordered it with chicken.

The stew took me back to childhood memories, having this stew in the house of my maternal grandmother, who used to cook it.

The broth had a delicious predominant taste of vegetables, and having ordered if from chicken, I was guarantee not to eat too much fat (compared to beef). I request a half portion and was a very generous. The only thing I did not like is that chicken came with their skin, but hey, I guess some enjoy eating like that.

My drink was a peppermint lemonade with Splenda, it was a refreshing selection.

To finish I could not avoid leaving without the dessert, which was a blackberry pie. Their pies are locally made. But believe me, this pie does not count as a sin, since every bite was like eating the blackberries themselves. It was very delicious to feel the real fruit flavor instead of it being disguised with lots of sugar.

The con about this place is that they do not have a parking lot, so you need to walk two blocks from the nearest parking.

Steak in downtown

There is this little place named Los Canelones, well known by it´s grill. I hadn't been there before but many people had recommended it.

If you visit Los Canelones you had to know that it will probably be full because many people that work in the downtown of Guatemala will go to this place to have lunch.

The place is like an old house, and they don't have a parking lot, like many places in this area.

The food was really good, the steak was juicy and they gave you a salad like side dish, and a little consommeé.

One of the bad things of this place is that they only accept cash, you can´t pay with credit card.

Me habían recomendado este lugar en varias oportunidades, es un restaurante de carne asada llamado Los Canelones.

Si visitas el lugar tienes que saber que por lo regular siempre esta lleno por que muchas personas que trabajan en el centro de la ciudad de Guatemala van a este lugar a almorzar.

El lugar es una casa antigua y no tienen estacionamiento, como muchos lugares del sector.

La comida estaba bastante buena, la carne estaba jugosa y te sirven junto con la carne una ensalada y un consomé.

La unica cosa mala de este lugar es que sólo puedes pagar con efectivo, no aceptan tarjetas.
