Even if am not hungry

This particular day, a dearest friend help me with a keynote for my students, so when we were finished he was hungry and we decided to go to this new place in the downtown of Guatemala. The name of the place is Dannys Pancake (I now it´s a little of a copycat of Dennys).

I wasn´t hungry but at the end when you go with a friend it´s more about the time you spend with them, so I order something small, it was a bacon wrapped in pancake, I love bacon, so that the obvious reason way I order this. It was really yummy.

This place Dannys Pancake it´s a little old, my mom used to go there as a little kid, but they only had one spot in the city and this in the downtown its theirs second one, so am happy that after many years they are growing.

Este día mi mejor amigo me había ayudado dando una charla para mis estudiantes, así que cuando terminamos el tenia hambre y decidimos ir a un lugar que había abierto recientemente en el centro de la Ciudad de Guatemala, el nombre del lugar es Dannys Pancake (si ya se lo que están pensando es una copia de Dennys).

Yo realmente no tenia hambre pero al final, si vas con un amigo, se trata más del tiempo que pueden pasar juntos, así que ordene algo pequeño, eran unas tiras de tocino envueltas en masa de panqueque, yo amo el tocino, así que esta es la razón obvia por la que ordene este plato, que estaba bastante bueno.

Este lugar es bastante antiguo, mi mamá solía ir con mi abuelita cuando era una niña, pero por mucho tiempo tuvieron solo un restaurante y recientemente que abrieron el segundo, así que me hizo feliz el saber que después de tantos años están creciendo.

A date with myself

On this day I had decided to have a little date with myself, many things have had happen in my personal life, so I need some quite time to think.

So I decided to went to Antigua, and I remember to had seen a little cafe named Ganache. 

This place is really comfy, it´s small and all the pastries look delicious, I went for a raspberry tart, that was delicious, the coffee was excellent and they also have wifi. 

I recommend you this little cafe if you are looking for a place to have a little dessert.

Este día había decidido tener una pequeña cita conmigo misma, habían pasado muchas cosas en mi vida personal y necesitaba un día a solas para poder pensar.

Así que decidí ir a la Antigua y me recordaba de haber visto con anterioridad un pequeño café llamado Ganache.

El lugar es bastante comodo, pequeño y todos los pastelitos se veían deliciosos, pedí una tarta de frambuesa que estaba deliciosa, el café riquísimo y además tienen wifi para los clientes.

Les recomiendo este cafecito si están en la búsqueda de un lugar para comer el postre.

Magic all around

In Antigua Guatemala, there is a restaurant called Sabe Rico, this place is magical, it's like you  are inside of a story book.

I had a lamb burger, you can choose the kind of bread you want for your burger, I had a muffin, the burger was delicious, the only thing that disappointed a little was the fries, there were greasy and a little raw. But the rest was perfect, this is the perfect place to have a little date or hag out with your friends.

En Antigua Guatemala, hay un lugar llamado Saber Rico, este lugar es mágico, es como que estuvieras dentro de un cuento.

En esta ocasión pedí una hamburguesa de cordero y el pan que elegí fue de muffin, la hamburguesa estaba deliciosa, la única cosa que me decepcionó un poco fueron las papas fritas, estaban bastante grasosas y un poco crudas. Pero el resto estuvo perfecto.

Este lugar es un punto perfecto para poder tener un almuerzo con tus amigos.

Breakfast for two

It was my grandma´s birthday so I wanted to take her for breakfast. The difficult part of this is that she is not always happy with the cooking of the places, because she always think she could do better. 

So thinking in places, I decided to take her to Splendido, I have had many good reviews of the restaurant. I can tell you they serve a really good coffee, the breakfast was good, nothing to dye for, but at least they have different things like the egg casserole with chips which is exactly what I had.

Era el cumpleaños de mia abuelita así que decidí llevarla a desayunar. La parte difícil de esto es que por lo general no le gusta como cocinan los restaurantes por que siempre cree que ella lo pudo haber hecho mejor.

Así que pensando en esto, decidí llevarla a Splendido, había escuchado buenas recomendaciones de este lugar. Para empezar debo decir que sirven un café delicioso, el desayuno estaba bastante bien, nada para morirse, pero lo que si me gusto es que tenían opciones diferentes, como huevos en casero con tortrix en lugar de nachos, que fue exactamente lo que pedí.

Celebrating the 28!

I was at my hometown one day after my birthday, but that wasn´t and impediment to celebrate. So one day later, I gather my closest friends and we have brunch together. If you know me well, you should know that I love Sunday brunches.

This time the gathering point was, Cafe Despierto in zona 14, I had all planned out. I ordered fruit skewers, yogurt for starters and for the main course, a plate called Don Moncho, that basically is a bagel with herbal butter, a fried egg, cheese, ham and a delicious white sauce.

I can tell you that this was one of the best birthdays EVER, the food was perfect and the companionship was the absolutely GREAT, I was so happy to be able to share this moment with my friends that actually are more like my family.

If you are in Guatemala make sure to visit, Cafe Despierto, the food it's great, the staff will help you to in everything you need, with a great attitude, the only problem is the parking, because it's really small, but the guardian outside the restaurant will help you to get a parking spot, I know the place it's almost perfect, except for the parking, but c´mon we can have everything at the same time.

My birthday cake was made by Reggie the best baker :) which happens to be my friend.

Estaba en Guatemala un día después de mi cumpleaños pero esto no fue un impedimento para celebrar. Así que un día después reuní a mis amigos más cercanos para que pudiéramos tener un brunch juntos, si me conocen bien, van a saber que amo los brunch de domingos.

Les puede decir que este fue uno de mis mejores cumpleaños, la comida estuvo exquisita y tuve la mejor compañía, estaba tan feliz de poder compartir este momento con mis amigos que son más como mi familia.

Si estas en Guatemala, asegurate de visitar Café Despierto, la comida es riquísima, y el personal te va ayudar a cualquier cosa que necesites, el único problema es el parqueo por que es muy pequeño, pero el policía te va ayudar a estacionarte en otro lugar. El lugar es casi perfecto solo por este inconveniente pero realmente no se puede tener todo a la vez.

Piggy night

It was, Friday night, and for a couple weeks, I have been, visiting a new plaza call Majadas Once, near my office, so this time I didn't have a clue to which restaurant to visit, so in the second flor is a restaurant named, Fat Swine, so the first thing you need to know is, if you are a vegetarian, this is not the place for you.

The menu offers a variety of options, with the pork as the main ingredient, so we order a burger called, The Avocado Siracha Burger,I have to say it was good, but in order to be excellent, The meat should be juicer, the side dish fresh french fries , the side dish was fresh fries with parmesan, and everything that has parmesan it's absolutely perfect!  I asked for duck tacos, this was beyond perfect, the flavor was balanced, and the meat juicy, I loved the tacos so much, that next day I was day dreaming about my tacos, THATS REAL LOVE <3

For the dessert we order a fried cheesecake, but this, I didn't love, it was too sweet, and I can barely, feel the taste of the cream cheese.

If you talk about the service, I can tell it was good, the waiter was always paying attention to our needs.

My overall score for The Fat Swine will be 7.5, it's a good place to try something new, and make sure to try the tacos  And visit the place with good company, that can change the entire experience.

Era un viernes y por algunos días había estado visitando el nuevo centro comercial Majadas Once, por que me queda cerca de la oficina. Así que esta vez no tenia idea de que restaurante probar, así que en el segundo nivel esta un restaurante llamado Fat Swine, así que lo primero que debes saber, es que si eres vegetariano este lo es el mejor lugar para ti.

El menú ofrece una gran variedad de opciones con la carne de cerdo como ingrediente principal, así que ordenamos una hamburguesa llamado Avocado Siracha Burger, tengo que decirles que estaba bastante buena pero para que sea genial la carne debí haber estado mucho más jugosa, el complemento eran papas fritas con queso parmesano, y cualquier cosa que tenga queso parmesano, tiene un sabor increíble. Yo ordene unos tacos de pato, que estaban GENIALES, no les puedo explicar lo deliciosos que eran, el sabor estaba balanceado y la carne jugosa, el sabor era tan perfecto que al día siguiente me encontré soñando despierta con mis tacos. ESO ES AMOR DEL BUENO <3

Como postre pedimos un cheesecake que venia como frito, pero la verdad no me gusto, estaba demasiado dulce y apenas se le sentía el sabor al queso.

Creo que este lugar es bastante bueno, tienen opciones diferentes, y cuando lo visites trata de ir con una buena compañía, eso podría cambiar toda la experiencia.

Montaditos!

So this place called Cien Montaditos recently opened a new restaurant, so We decided to go, the first thing you need to know about this place is that are like 200 options of montaditos, so If you are someone who finds it difficult to decide, this place might not be right for you.

So after 30 minutes, looking at the menu, we decided to have a plate of beef montaditos, the result was CATASTROPHIC, one of the montaditos had anchovies and I can't stand anything that comes from the sea. The other one was with ham Serrano. On the plus side the fresh french fries and the onion rings were the best part with the sangria, so that´s the reason why this place is always full, because you can have drinks at a very cheap cost, but if you want to eat, this is not a good option.

Este lugar se llama Cien Montaditos, y abrió recientemente un nuevo restaurante, así que decidimos ir. La primera cosa que necesitas saber es que este lugar ofrece como 200 opciones de montaditos, así que si eres una persona que le resulta difícil decidir, este lugar pueda que no sea el mejor para ti.

Después de 30 minutos viendo el menú, decidimos ordenar un plato de montados de carne. El resultado fue catastrófico para mi, principalmente por que uno de los montaditos tenia anchoas, y no me gusta comer nada que venga del mar. El otro tenia jamón Serrano. Lo mejor fueron las otras opciones las papas fritas y los aros de cebolla, estos fueron la mejor parte, acompañados con sangria. Esta es una de las razones por las que este lugar siempre esta lleno, por que las bebidas son bastante baratas, pero si quieres comer, este lugar tal vez no sea la mejor opción.

One thing you need to know about me, is that I love breakfast, I guess one of the main reasons, I like it, it's because How many times do you have the chance to sit down and eat breakfast. If you're a little bit like myself. I will grab an apple and eat it on my way to the gym

So, the first Sunday of the month We gather with my friends and have breakfast, so this moth the place we choose was Skillets, I order and omelette with bacon, peppers, onion and cheese.  But I have to say the taste wasn't fabulous, it was just OK. The name of the omelet was Oh Le!

Positive things of the places; Many locations, parking lot, free coffee refill

Negative: The taste is average, the presentation of the dish can be better, in may case I don´t like the red peppers and onions, to be chopped like a salad, iIf you are ordering an egg, and in this particular omelette it looks like the used the same onion and red peppers of the salad to my egg and I hate it.

So if you go to this place, may be will be a better idea to give it a try to the pancakes.

Una cosa que debes saber sobre mi, es que AMO los desayunos, supongo que es una de las principales razones por las que me gusta es por que por lo general no tengo tiempo de sentarme a desayunar y si te pareces un poco a mi, lo más seguro es que solo agarres una manzana para comerla en el camino al gimnasio.

Así que el primer domingo del mes nos juntamos con mis amigas a desayunar, y este mes el restaurante que escogimos fue Skillets. Yo ordene un omelette con tocino, chiles pimientos, cebolla y queso. Tengo que decir que el sabor no fue espectacular pero estaba bien, el nombre del desayuno es Oh le!.

Las cosas positivas del lugar es que hay muchos establecimientos, tienen parqueo y el café tiene refill.

Las cosas negativas, el sabor es bastante promedio, la presentación de los platos podría mejorar, y en mi caso no me gusta que los chiles pimientos y la cebolla estén cortados como ensalada, por que en este omelette parecía que eran los mismos vegetales que se usan para las ensaladas y eso no me gusto.

Si van a Skillets tal vez sea mejor idea darle una oportunidad a los panqueques o a la avena que es DELICIOSA.

Monday Lunch

Monday´s lunch at my home are  particular, because, on the weekends, no one cooks, so you have to figured out what to have for lunch for to start the week. 

So on this particular Sunday, I stopped by  Anfora to buy bread, but when I entered couldn't, resist to the aroma of baking croissants. I'm a croissant lover!!!. Then I decided to buy croissant for my Monday lunch, my verdict was:  Good enough. If you ask me, I will rather pick cheddar than white cheese, it's like a classic, so why changed it. The chips I bought to go with my croissants of course had to be Luas. I could eat a whole bunch of them by myself. I´m guessing the are addicting.

Los almuerzos de los lunes en mi casa son particulares, por que por lo general el fin de semana no se cocina, así que hay que ver que cosa se puede preparar para empezar la semana.

Así que en este domingo en particular, pase a Anfora para comprar pan, pero cuando entre no me pude resistir al olor de los croissants recién horneados. Debo decir que soy una amante de los croissants. Así que decidí comprar croissant para mi almuerzo de lunes. Mi veredicto: Son bastante buenos, si me preguntaran preferiría que tuvieran queso cheddar en lugar de queso blanco, es un clásico así que para que cambiarlo. Las chips que compre para acompañar mis croissants por supuesto tenían que ser Luas. Me podría comer una cantidad inimaginable de Luas yo sola, supongo que son adictivas.

When in Antigua

Antigua, it´s a beautiful place, to chill on the weekend, it's only two hours,  away from the city, and you can visit cultural places, walk and EAT!!

If you visit Antigua, you will be tempted to eat in the same place and ask for the same plate, because regularly it's to good and you don't wanna take chances with something else. But if you are a little adventurous as I am, I recommend you that go outside and pick a new restaurant every time you have the chance.

On my last visit to Antigua I went to this peculiar place, its name is 7A Norte, a little place with and spectacular view, they have their own terrance so thats a plus.

We order a camembert cheese, and it was delicious, combined with pepper, onion and fig jam, and not very enthusiastic about the fig but the combination with the cheese was perfect, I have to say, the onion jam wasn't so good compared with the other two. As a main course we eat a pizza with prosciutto and rucula, the prosciutto was delicious at its point not too salty like in some places the served it.

So next time you visit Antigua give 7A Norte a try, and discover new things.

Antigua es un lugar realmente hermoso para tener un fin de semana relajado. Se encuentra a solo dos horas de la ciudad, y puedes visitar lugares culturales, caminar y sobre todo COMER.

Si visitas Antigua seguramente vas a estar tentado a comer en el mismo lugar de siempre y order lo que ya estas acostumbrado, por que por lo general, va a ser algo bueno y no estas dispuesto a tomar riesgos con algo diferente. Pero si eres un poco aventurero, yo te recomiendo que vayas allá afuera y elige un restaurante nuevo cada vez que tengas la oportunidad.

En mi última visita a Antigua, visite un lugar bastante peculiar, se llama 7A Norte, es una pequeña pizzeria, con una vista espectacular ya que tienen su propia terraza, que eso ya es un plus.

Ordenamos un queso Camembert, que estaba delicioso, combinado con mermelada de  chiles, cebolla e higo. La verdad no soy muy entusiasta con el higo, pero la combinación con el queso era perfecta. Tengo que decir que la mermelada de cebolla no era tan buena comparada con las otras dos. Como plato fuerte pedimos una pizza con prosciutto y arugula, el prosciutto estaba delicioso, no demasiado salado como en algunos lugares. 

Así que la próxima vez que visites Antigua, dale una oportunidad a 7A Norte e intenta descubrir nuevas cosas.
